Few weeks after a beauty brand Dove was attacked on the social media for depicting a black woman morphing into a white woman, Nivea has also sparked racial outrage.
The beauty product has been criticised for it advert on one of its product, ‘Natural Fairness lotions’. The advert, which features Former Miss Nigeria Omowunmi Akinnifesi applying the lotion to her skin, and instantly made her lighter while claiming that it made her feel younger appears in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and Senegal.
This is why black businesses need to rise up and cater for our needs. Nivea can’t get away with pushing this skin lightening agenda across Africa. Appalling. pic.twitter.com/8uR7XHNgVa

However, Nivea has responded by saying: “We have recently noted concerns on social media by some consumers regarding our Nivea Natural Fairness body lotion communication in Ghana. We would like to emphasize that this campaign is in no way meant to demean or glorify any person’s needs or preferences in skin care,” a statement from the brand on Facebook read.
